Over the past few weeks 1E and the other year 1 classes have been learning about procedural texts. We have looked into the different features of a procedural text such as: a title, goal, equipment/ what you need/ materials and the steps/instructions. We have also learnt about verbs and adverbs and how they are used very differently in procedural texts compared to other texts.
Last week was our chance to get creative and write our own procedural texts on a lunch that we like to make. We started off on Monday taking pictures of ourselves completing each step while we were making our lunches. Tuesday, we started writing the title, goal and list of ingredients and equipment. On Thursday we wrote the steps that we took to make our lunch and used the pictures from Monday to prompt our thinking. On Friday we then published our writing on Picollage.

For the past few weeks 1B has been learning and exploring procedural texts. We have investigated the different features of a procedure such as, a title, goal, list of materials and numbered steps. We have learnt about bossy verbs and adverbs and how they instruct the reader how to do something. In Week 7 we have been super busy constructing our very own procedures on delicious lunches that we have made at home.
On Monday we started by taking pictures of ourselves completing each step while we made our lunches. On Tuesday we started to write the title, goal and list of materials we needed. On Thursday we wrote the steps that we took to make our lunch, making sure we included bossy verbs and adverbs. Finally, on Friday we published our writing using Picollage or Book Creator.

We are back doing remote learning in Term 3! We are super excited to share with you some of the learning that has been happening during our first few weeks of school.
For literacy, we have been investigating Procedural Texts and how to ask Questions in order to find out more information!
Procedural Texts: We have been learning about the different features of a procedural text and why we would need to use one! For one of our lessons, we were able to show our understanding by taking photos of ourselves following the procedural text called ‘How to wash your hands’.
Questioning: We have been learning about the different ways we could ask questions when we need to find out more information.
For maths, we have been focusing on Addition and Subtraction and Skip Counting!
Addition and Subtraction: We have been learning about the many strategies we could use, to find out the answer to an addition or subtraction problem.
Skip Counting: We have been learning to count large amounts by choosing a skip counting method! Skip counting allows us to count things more quickly and accurately.
For CBL we have been introduced to Power and all the various meanings of Power! Some of us have even tried designing and creating objects that involve Power!

We have been focusing on question starter words such as, who, when, what, where, why, is and how. Due to remote learning we have really missed seeing our friends. So yesterday we put our new knowledge of asking questions to gain new information and have written letters to our friends.

1A has been doing such a great job with their online learning so far in Term 3!
This Term in reading and writing we have been looking at ‘Questions’ -how to ask questions as well as different question starter words.
We realised that because of online learning we don’t get to see our friends as much as we use to, but thats okay because we can still say hello to them online! 1A have used our knowledge of questioning to ask someone in our school community a question to find out some more information.

This week we wanted to write a letter to someone in our school community and ask them questions about their remote learning experiences.

Our learning about power has been going really well in CBL. We’ve investigated different kinds of power through lots of experiments and now we’re starting the follow the design process to look at how we can use and create something powerful!
